Player profile

Daniel Shannon came down from Hawick in the Border area of Scotland to join Oldham in October 1912. There was fierce competition for half-back places at the time as Danny had to contend with internationals Jim Lomas, Tom White, Billy Farnsworth and ‘George’ Anlezark for a place in the Oldham team.

However, he did make eight senior appearances for the Roughyeds making his debut on March 24th 1913 against Broughton Rangers, before going back to Scotland at the outbreak of the first Word War to join the 7th Cameron Highlanders.

Danny was killed in action at the Battle of Loos on September 25th 1915 aged 29.
He is remembered on the Loos Memorial and the Hawick Roll of Honour.
