Jim Delaney
Profile
Jim Delaney first came to the attention of Oldham FC at the start of the 1914-15 season when playing for the Oldham Amateur League against Oldham “A”.
Although the “A” team boys won easily two players from the amateurs, Jim, from the United Irish Club and Tom Wainman from Heyside, impressed enough to be invited to play for the first team the following season. Jim’s last match was against Broughton Rangers on January 22nd 1916 when he broke his collarbone. He never played for Oldham again. Later the same year Tom Wainman was killed at the Somme.
In total Jim played 15 games for Oldham, all of them in the 1915-16 season. These fixtures were classed as”War-time Friendly” matches which unfortunately do not count towards official statistics.
