Neil signed for Oldham in March 2000 and was a non-playing substitute at Featherstone on the 26th of that month. The following week at Sheffield, Neil was again a sub but came on to make his Oldham debut on April 2nd 2000. The first of 295 appearances for the Roughyeds.
After the debut Neil soon established himself in the first team alternating between stand-off and scrum-half, as and when required in either position.
He was an ever-present in the Oldham team in 2001 playing in all 34 matches and top try scorer the following year with 20. He went to Batley for the 2005 season and also had a brief spell at Leigh but was back at Oldham for the 2007 season when he was made club captain and again clocked up the most appearances with 34 out of a possible 35.
He played his last match against Gloucester All Golds on August 11th 2013 having scored 113 tries, more than any other half-back in the history of the club and 25 drop goals which is second only to Ray Ashton’s 26 on the club’s all-time list.
Neil’s 295 appearances are the most by any Oldham player in the 21st century.
